FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 26, 2001 Xybo Systems Launches Version 1.5 of the Wireless Application Enabler (WAE) - The most advanced wireless application platforms in the market today
(Toronto, Canada) - Canadian mobility software developer Xybo Systems of Markham, Ontario continues a rapid pace of development with the release of V1.5 of its Enabler suite, which is comprised of the Application Builder - a radically-simple graphical development tool for building wireless applications - and the Application Server, a robust engine for hosting wireless applications at any demand load scale.
Key among the several Version 1.5 enhancements is the support of the Simple Object Access Protocol. SOAP is an emerging XML/HTTP-based protocol for accessing services, objects and other servers in a platform-independent manner -- and a building block in Microsoft's Dot Net strategy.
"The world-wide web has become just that," says Xybo Founder and President Raymond Ho, "a global inter-connected web of information and services. The mobile user will want to collect intelligence from many different sources, and SOAP routines in the Xybo suite will help to make these processes seamless."
With an ongoing objective of achieving universal compatibility amongst data-enabled devices, Enabler 1.5 supports I-mode, which is the second mobile display format to be supported by Xybo after WAP, the Wireless Application Protocol used in Europe and now emerging in North America.
I-mode is the Compact HTML (cHTML) language adopted by Japan's NTT DoCoMo and by its North American partner, AT&T Wireless, for display on their wireless Internet mobile phone services. "All applications constructed with the Xybo Application Builder and hosted on our Server software will talk to i-mode phones, and that adds a potential audience of 20 million connected users in Japan," notes Ho.
Xybo has also added support for standard HTML Internet browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. "Applications built for reading on the small screens of today's wireless devices look very unglamorous on the browsers we use for multimedia surfing," cautions Ho, "but we saw no reason not to add Xybo mobile application readability for the tens of millions of people worldwide who surf the web thru a wire."
On a more granular level, Xybo's mobility suite Version 1.5 supports ADO record-retrieval routines. The ActiveX Data Object is a Microsoft-developed process for strategic, high-level interface to all kinds of data. The addition of ADO support simplifies access to back-end databases, so that transactions and content can be readily extended to mobile users.
Xybo Wireless Application Enabler Version 1.5 is shipping now.
